CWC affidavit: 23 warnings given before Surat flood
Surat, Oct 13 (UNI) Central Water Commission in an affidavit filed before the Gujarat High Court on October 11 has said it had given 23 warnings about the flood, to the state government, between July 31 and August 15.
The affidavit was filed in response to a notice issued to the CWC by a divison bench of Gujarat High Court following a public interest petition (PIL) filed by Hoshang Mirza, a Surat-based lawyer, whose contention was that the flood that hit the city was a man-made disaster, sources said.
The affidavit filed by Jitendra Panwar, executive engineer of CWC Tapi division contented that they continued giving warnings, even after the telecommunication system had broken, using a mobile phone.
The next hearing of the petition is on November 20.
