Bengal Congress leader resigns
Kolkata, Oct 13 (UNI) Former Congress Legislature Party Leader Atish Chandra Sinha today resigned from the party's primary membership and floated a new outfit.
Mr Sinha announced this at a press conference at Behrampur in Murshidabad district.
Alleging discrimination against him, the veteran leader, who had been marginalised in intra-party feud, said the new party--''Atish Sinha Independent''--would uphold the original values of the Congress.
Pradesh Congress Working President Pradip Bhattacharjee said it was Mr Sinha's personal decision and 'unfortunate'.
Mr Sinha, who had long been a legislator from Kandi in Murshidabad district, lost in the last Assembly elections to a rebel candidate, put up by party MP Adhir Choudhury.
The bad blood between the two prompted the party leadership to intervene to ensure success in the elections, but the row continued with Mr Choudury holding the ultimate sway.
