Assistant labour commissioner, police official arrested for bribing

Patna, Oct 13 (UNI) Sleuths of Bihar Vigilance Bureau today arrested an Assistant Labour Commissioner and an officer-in-charge from West Champaran and Gaya districts respectively in connection with bribery cases.

Additional Director General (ADG) of the bureau Neelmani said an employee of a Bettiah shop, Ranjit Kumar, had said that Assistant Labour Commissioner of West Champaran Sant Lal Chaudhary demanded money to dispose a pending case.

The owner of the shop had filed a petition before the Assistant Labour Commissioner, challenging the order of Bettiah Labour Superintendent, who had directed him to pay Rs 1.18 lakh as wages to Mr Kumar.

Chaudhary was arrested when he was accepting Rs 5,000 from Mr Kumar and was brought here for interrogation, he added.

In another case, officer-in-charge of Atri police station in Gaya district, Lal Babu Prasad was arrested when he was receiving Rs 6,000 from Dhananjay Kumar to extend undue favour to him in connection to a pending case.

Prasad has also been brought here for interrogation, the ADG said.
