Yeshwant Haappe appointed MPCC General Secretary

Mumbai, Oct 12 (UNI) Yeshwant Haappe, a close associate of former Chief Minister late Vasantdada Patil for nearly two decades, has been appointed as General Secretary of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) by Maharashtra Congress President Prabha Rau.

The appointment was made following demand from independent legislators supporting the Congress to AICC President Sonia Gandhi recently that their nominee be appointed as party officebearer.

''The independent MLAs suggested my name,'' Haappe said.

Mr Haappe was the private secretary of late Mr Patil from 1971 to 1989.
