Vaiko lodges complaint to CEC against election observers
Chennai, Oct 12 (UNI) Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) general secretary Vaiko today complained to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) on the dereliction of duty by the election observers in Madurai Central Assembly constituency where the by-poll was held yesterday.
In a letter to the CEC, Mr Vaiko pointed out that Election Observer Sanjeev Kumar, deputed for overseeing the polls in Madurai Central Assembly constituency, had visited Thekkadi in Kerala, using the official car on October five, while the other observer K R Meena had visited Rameswaram on the same day.
It was a serious matter that on the very same day, AIADMK candidate Rajan Chellappa and his party cadres were assualted when they tried to prevent the ruling DMK men from distributing money to the voters. The whole incident was reported in a section of the press today, he added.
The credibility of the Election Commission and the confidence of the people in the EC would be eroded if such activities were not curtailed, he said.
Mr Vaiko urged the EC to withdraw the election observers for their irresponsible, reckless, callous action and dereliction of duty.
