Tax evasion bid foiled, electronic goods seized

Jammu, Oct 12 (UNI) Heavy penalties have been imposed on an electronic goods trader by the Commercial Taxes office for trying to evade tax at Lakhanpur check post.

Sources said Dy Commissioner Commercial Taxes, R K Varma along with other officials intercepted a car driven by one Rishi Samrat of Sonepat which contained 1000 audio cassettes and 5500 video cds. The value of the goods was put at around Rs 1.57 lakh.

The goods were later seized and will only be released after recovery of penalty as well as security equal to 125 per cent of the value assessed, sources added.
