Taibu to play for Namibia

London, Oct 12 (UNI) The nomad in Tatenda Taibu has found a new pasture and the former Zimbabwe captain will play as a guest player for Namibia in the next six months.

According to a BBC Sport report, the 23-year-old stumper-batsman played for Namibia on Sunday in Windhoek against Limpopo in a South African provincial tournament which runs until next March.

And since the competition does not come under international level, Taibu can play as a Zimbabwean citizen.

''I'm going through the contract at the moment and should sign it in the next couple of days,'' Taibu told BBC Sport.

''I wanted to be away from the politics in Zimbabwean cricket, and at the same time remain active in competitive cricket, so Namibia is good for me at the moment,'' he explained.

At loggerheads with the Zimbabwe cricket board, Taibu resigned from the national team after 24 Tests and 84 one-day internationals and subsequently, the affable, played club cricket in Bangladesh and England.

The diminutive cricketer also tried his luck in South Africa, hoping to qualify for the Proteas but that would take four years, while he would need five years to be eligible to represent Namibia.

He didn't rule out a return to Zimbabwe but Taibu is not very sure of his future.

''It's a possibility, but if nothing happens soon I won't be going back to play for Zimbabwe.

''I really can't say what my long-term future plans are right now, but I'll have a better idea in a couple of weeks from now,'' he said.
