Srinagar-Leh highway to close on October 31

Srinagar, Oct 12 (UNI) The 434-km Srinagar-Leh national highway will close for all vehicular traffic from October 31, an official spokesman said today.

He said due to bad weather conditions, intermittent and early snowfall, extreme cold temperature and likely icing on the road surface especially on the Zojila pass, the Srinagar-Sonmarg-Leh road will be closed for all vehicular traffic from October 31.

Accordingly, all resources deployed at various locations on the road would be withdrawn, the spokesman added.

From October 16, he said the traffic movement on the Zojila Axis will be one way on alternative days for up and down convoys.

Public and tourist transporters have been requested by the Project Beacon not to ply their vehicles beyond Gagangir on the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road after October 21.

''In case they do so, it will be at their own risk and responsibility,'' the spokesman said.
