Punjab Police win team championship

Jalandhar, Oct 12 (UNI) Hosts Punjab Police today won team championship in the 55th All India Police Games here while Border Security Force (BSF) emerged runners-up.

The Punjab Police secured a total of 499.70 points in various events including weight lifting, judo, gymnastics and wrestling.

With 476.10 points BSF remained a close second.

Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF) and Indo Tibet Border Police (ITBP) were declared joint winner for the third place with 434.80 points.

Kuldeep Kumar of Punjab Police was declared the best all round gymnast while his team mates Akashdeep Singh and Jaideep Sharma got second and third positions.

Meanwhile,four more new records were created in weight lifting events today. While three of the new records were created by weight lifters from CRPF, one record was made by Punjab Police participant.

In a keenly contested 105 Kg men's event M Sriniwas Rao of CRPF lifted 149 kg in snatch to demolish previous meet record. However, he could not give similar performance in clean and jerk and could only manage third position by lifting total 314 kg (149 snatch and 165 kg clean and jerk).

Punjab Police's Gurmit Singh who also set new record by lifting 148 kg in snatch secured first position in the event by lifting total 325 kg(148 kg snatch and 177 kg clean and jerk). Gurmit's team mate Rakesh lifted the highest 178 kg in clean and jerk but could lift only 137 kg in snatch to finish at second place.

In 75 kg women's weight lifting event Nashita Devi of CRPF won with 206 kg(93 kg snatch and 113 kg clean and jerk), she set new meet record in snatch. Her team mate Sumati Devi secured second place lifting 196 kg(90 kg snatch and 106 kg in clean and jerk) and Renu Bhardwaj of CISF was a distant third with 150 Kg.

In above 75 kg category Geeta Rani(CRPF) won the event with meet record 101 kg in snatch and lifting a total weight of 238 kg.

Neelima Saraf of Madhya Pradesh Police(165 Kg) and SK Mahalbobunisha of Andhra Pradesh Police(89 kg) finished at second and third places respectively.
