Punjab heading for bumper paddy crop

Chandigarh, Oct 12 (UNI) Punjab is expecting a bumper paddy harvest this season and according to current estimates the production figure is expected to touch 136.75 lakh tonnes.

Principal secretary, Food and Supplies, Tejinder Kaur today stated that out of the total production around 130 lakh tonnes was expected to reach the grain markets (mandis).

The paddy arrivals had picked up in the last one week and so far 48.33 lakh tonnes had reached the mandis across the state, she said.

Out of the total arrivals, Pungrain had purchased 8.95 lakh tonnes, Markfed 8.29 lakh tonnes, Punsup 10.11 lakh tonnes, Punjab State Warehousing Corporation (PSWC) 4.87 lakh tonnes and Punjab Agro Industries Corporation 5.30 lakh tonnes. FCI had procured 1.72 lakh tonnes while the millers in state had procured 9.06 lakh tonnes.
