Principal arrested in student suicide case

Jammu, Oct 12 (UNI) The police today arrested the principal of a private school, who had allegedly beaten and insulted a ninth class boy of a private school in Gandhi Nagar area leading to the student committing suicide.

Police said a case under section 306 RPC (Abetment to suicide) was registered against the principal Kirtan Singh.

The people of Gandhi Nagar area held a massive demonstration on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway near the convent school for the second consecutive day today, stopping traffic for a long time.

Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Peerzada Mohammad has already ordered an inquiry into the whole episode. Meanwhile, Director School Education Jammu, D K Vaid will conduct an inquiry into the incident.

Jatinder Singh, a student of Harwinder Higher Secondary Public School hanged himself from a ceiling fan at his home after returning from the school yesterday.

The brother of the deceased, who was also the student of the same school was beaten severely by the principal, has been admitted to the Gandhi Nagar government hospital and his condition was being closely monitored by the doctors.
