President advocates technological convergence
Gwalior, Oct 12 (UNI) Advocating technological convergence, President A P J Abdul Kalam today said the convergence of bio, nano and information technologies has changed the face of development in the country.
Dr Kalam was addressing 'National Symposium on Instrumentation and Bio-medical Instrumentation' at ITM Universe here organised under the joint auspices of ITM and the Indian Instrumentation Society.
Madhya Pradesh Governor Balram Jakhar and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan were also present on the occasion.
Dr Kalam said Star Laboratories of South Korea has developed DNA-based apparatus to fight dreaded diseases such as cancer with the convergence of nano and bio technology.
He pointed out that significant work was taking place in this regard in India and Gwalior-based Defence Research and Development Organisation has developed a kit that can detect typhoid in short time. Previously, the procedure was quite long.
Likewise, Banaras Hindu University students had developed a nano-filter to provide clean drinking water that filter out microorganisms like polio virus and E Coli bacteria.
Bangalore-based Indian Science Institute's Professor A K Sood has developed a micro-apparatus to produce electric current with help of liquid flow in a carbon filter tube. This can be implanted in the heart of a patient and can cure irregular heart beat, he observed.
