Police killer shot dead in encounter

Chitrakoot, Oct 12 (UNI) The Special Operation Group (SOG) of the district police has gunned down a notorious criminal wanted in connection with the killing of two police personnel here.

Acting on a tip-off about the presence of a history-sheeter and his aides in Kadarganj forest, cops surrounded the area. On being challenged, the criminals opened fire.

The police retaliated and in the ensuing encounter, the criminal, later indentified as Ram Sharan Yadav alias Topilal, was shot dead late last night. His aides, however, managed to escape. A rifle was recovered from the spot.

The slain criminal was a prime accused in the murder of two police personnel in Karbai area of the district on November 9 last.

Several cases of murder, robbery and abduction were pending against him in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

A manhunt was on to nab his aides.
