New US draft on NKorea calls for cargo inspection

UNITED NATIONS, Oct 12 (Reuters) The United States has circulated a revised UN Security Council resolution to impose sanctions on North Korea in hopes the 15-member body will adopt it by the end of the week.

The draft, obtained by Reuters, contains an array of weapons-related and financial sanctions to punish Pyongyang for its announcement on Monday it had conducted an underground test of a nuclear weapon.

The resolution still authorises the inspection of cargo to and from North Korea to check for any weapons of mass destruction or related materials, a provision diplomats said China opposes.
