Naxals strike at forest checkpost; take away gun from guard
Chikmagalur, Karnataka, Oct 12 (UNI) Naxalites today struck at a forest checkpost on the outskirts of Aldur town, about 60 km from here, and took away a double barrel gun after threatening the lone forest guard on duty.
Police officials said about ten ultras, wearing masks, came to the checkpost from nearby forests during the early hours and threatened the guard on duty and took away the gun.
They also wrote some pro-naxal messages on the walls of the checkpost, which was also being used as a resting place by the forest department personnel. They warned the guard not to trouble the tribals living in the area before fleeing the scene.
The Anti Naxal Squad (ANS) began combing operations in Aldur and Mudigere forest limits this morning to nab the outlaws. Senior officials, including Superintendent of Police Vipul Kumar, visited the spot.
Meanwhile, another party of ANS arrested two suspected naxals near Shirlalu in Karkala police limits in neighbouring Dakshina Kannada district and seized a countrymade gun from their possession.
Sighting the duo, the policemen asked them to surrender, which they did immediately. They were produced before the Karkala court, who remanded them to custody.
