Mizo cops to fight highway hoodlums

Aizawl, Oct 12: To prevent regular dacoity and attacks on night vehicles plying along the Mizoram-Cachar border area, Mizoram police have beefed up security along the Highways.

Police protection would be provided to vehicles every night from the state's Bilkhawthlir till Dholai in Asom's Cachar district, Additional Superindent of Police Lalthan Mawia told UNI here today.

'' There has been a spurt in the highway robberies since it is easy fo the dacoits to operate along these porous borders,'' he added.

According to the plan, the vehicles travelling towards Silchar would first assemble at Bilkhawthlir and leave in a convoy under police protection.

'' However, we are still waiting for the support of Asom police,'' he said.

Criminals from Bangladesh might be operating along this stretch, he apprehended.
