Mashelkar to head Global Research Alliance from 2007

New Delhi, Oct 12 (UNI) Director-General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) R A Mashelkar today announced that he would take over as President of the Global Research Alliance from next year.

At the Leadership Summit organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here Dr Mashelkar said he would head the Alliance from Pune.

''The global community has to come together and think about the poor even as the mainstream economy shines,'' he said adding that the Alliance will focus on creating a global knowledge pool for global good through global funding.

It comprises of the apex research institutions from South Africa, Australia, Germany, Finland, Netherlands, Denmark, the US and Malaysia, and brings together over 40,000 scientists and a multi-million dollar budget.
