Joint effort needed to expand communication facilities

Puducherry, Oct 12 (UNI) Mr K Sridhara, Member (Technology) Telecom Commission, Department of Telecommunications, New Delhi today called upon industries, educational institutions and research and development centres to take joint effort for expanding communication facilities in the country.

Inaugurating a one-day panel discussion on WiMAX sponsored by VSNL at the Pondicherry Engineering college here, Mr Sridhara said the wireless communication system had increased rapidly in the country and WiMAX was yet another system which could open greater avenue for multifarious developments.

He stressed the need for connecting rural pockets with WiMAX in order to promote the economic well being of the people.

He said the introduction of WiMAX may have several problems which should be identified, analysed and tackled in a collaborative manner.

People from academic and research sections participated in the panel discussion.
