Five Indians reach Asian Junior boxing semi-finals
Panaji, Oct 12 (UNI) The total number of Indians in the second Asian Junior Boxing championship has gone up to five, with two more Indian boxers moving into the semi-finals at Calangute in North Goa today.
Chhotelal and Noga Singh have reached the semi-finals in the Feather weight and Light Welter weight respectively.
Chhotelal beat Japan's Taichizuni by one point outscored, with a good display of power-packed punches, to enter the semi-finals.
However, Taichizuni took the pounding gamely and lost on points finally.
Noga Singh beat B Shahtav of Turkey by 20-15 to enter the semi-final. He won the bout despite the height disavantage.
Kazakhistan's Koznabekov showed his prowess against H Hawzar of Iran and showed that the Kazakh boxers are strong on technique and physique.
Iran's Karkadi outclassed Malaysia's Fakarrudin to progress into the semi-finals.
Earlier, a heavy shower prior to the start of the third day of the championship could not dampen the intesne competition in the quarter final stage.
Sri Lanka's Heelbathdeniya beat S Moorthy of Malaysia with his quick punches early in the second round.
Tomorrow is the rest day.
