EU rules limiting liquids on flights to start Nov 6
LUXEMBOURG, Oct 12 (Reuters) New European Union rules restricting the amount of liquids that passengers may take on board planes will go into force on November 6, the bloc's transport chief said today.
The rules allow passengers to carry on toiletry items such as toothpaste, contact lens solution and perfume but not large drink containers, except those purchased after security checks.
''These provisions will come into force from November 6,'' Transport Commissioner Jacques Barrot told a news conference at a meeting of EU transport ministers.
Security measures were tightened after authorities in London said in August they had foiled a plot to bomb flights bound for the United States using liquid explosives.
The EU rules were proposed to unify security measures across the 25-nation bloc.
