CII signs accord with Finnish technical research centre

Helsinki, Oct 12 (UNI) Adding another dimension to technology application and commercialisation, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) today signed an MoU with the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland is the biggest contract research organisation in Northern Europe.

The signing of the MoU coincided with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's four-day visit to Finland in connection with the 7th India-EU Summit. It was signed by CII Director General, Lt Gen S S Mehta on behalf of CII and his counterpart from VTT Erkki Km Leppatuuori.

The VTT Technical Research holds around 1,100 patents. With a proven track record - almost 100 per cent of corporate customers assessed that their expertise and knowledge base had improved as a result of their partnership with VTT.

''With partners like VTT coming on board, we now hope to further encourage Indian companies to access specific hi - end research, said Mr R Seshasayee, President, CII . "It is a natural progress from the MoUs that CII has signed in the past week on creating and enlarging the CII National Innovation grid to become a richer virtual information system", he added.

Earlier this week, during the India - UK Investment Summit and on occasion of the visit of Dr the Indian Prime Minister Dr Singh to UK, CII had signed two MoUs with the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning, University of Cambridge, UK and the Imperial College, UK. Focus of both the MoUs was to drive innovation amongst SMEs, promote clusters and to create an Innovation Grid in India, The MoU with the VTT Technical Research Institute gives a cutting edge to the CII's National Innovation Grid.
