Centre extends 'Swayamsidha' scheme in Haryana

Chandigarh, Oct 12 (UNI) The Centre has extended the implementation of 'Swayamsidha', an integrated scheme for women's empowerment in Haryana, up to March next.

A spokesman for the Haryana Women and Child Development Department said the scheme aimed at formation of self help groups of women to impart them training in capacity building, awareness generation, economic empowerment and convergence of various schemes.

At present, the scheme was being implemented in 13 blocks of six districts of Ambala, Panchkula, Hisar, Rewari, Mahendergarh and Yamunanagar and 1300 self help groups had been formed, he added.

The state government, he said, had urged the Centre to sanction the implementation of the scheme in one block of each remaining district of the state so as to benefit more women.

The Centre had approved the State Action Plan, involving an investment of over Rs 2.20 crore, and had released the amount for implementation of this programme.

The self help groups formed under the scheme had been imparted training in accounts keeping, legal literacy, self defence and gender sensitisation.
