BMRDA's decision robs livelihood of construction workers

Bangalore, Oct 12 (UNI) More than 30000 skilled and un-skilled construction workers in the city were severely affected due to arbitory decision of the Bangalore Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (BMRDA) which had stopped all activities of land-conversion, development and construction of buildings in its jurisdiction.

Mr Nagarag, one of the prominent land developers, in a press conference, said that the BMRDA had issued moratorium order without any prior notice for the developments of land conversion, approval of buildings plans and layouts in its jurisdiction in July this year resulting in grinding halt to all their activities.

He said that Karnataka Land developers association had questioned the impugned order of the BMRDA in the Karnataka High Court and got a stay. In its judgement, the High Court had directed BMRDA should not stop any development works which were approved earlier by it.

However, it was not being honoured by the government and other agencies, giving scant respect to Court order, he added.

Due to the BMRDA restriction, hundreds of developers who had invested more than Rs 10,000 crore in land purchase, conversion and plans for approval besides causing indirect losses for general public, affected the livelihood of construction workers of over 30,000 who had come from different part of the country.

Mr Nagaraj alleged that the BMRDA had issued moratorium order for buying of land, its conversion and approval of residential plans without issuing any notice to the public resulting in losses and hardships to both public, land developers and also for farmers.

Replying to a question Mr Nagaraj has said that the land developers who were severly affected due to BMRDA action has plans to approach the High Court seeking implementation of the court orders issued earlier against the order of the BMRDA, he said.
