BIS celebrates World Standards Day tomorrow

New Delhi, Oct 12 (UNI) Bureau of Indian Standards will celebrate the World Standards Day here tomorrow which is held the world over to mark the birth of International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO).

ISO had held its first meeting in London on October 14, 1946 and India is a founder member of the organisation.

The World Standards Day function will be presided over by Mr Sharad Pawar, Union Minister for Agriculture, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.

The purpose of celebrating the World Standards Day is to raise awareness about the importance of International Standardisation to the World economy and to promote its role in contributing towards meeting the needs of business, industry, Government and consumers worldwide.

This international event pays tribute to people engaged in standardisation activities.

This theme for this year's World Standards Day is ''Standards: Big Benefits for Small Business'' reflects the importance of standardisation in all walks of life.

On the occasion, a technical seminar on the theme is being held which shall be chaired by Mr S M Ahuja, Industrial Adviser (Electronics), Office of DC (SSI).

The presentation will be made by Mr V S Karunakaran, Industrial Adviser, Office of DC (SSI), Mr U R Tata, General Manager, SIDBI, Mr Anil Bali, Vice President, Deki Electronics Ltd. and Mr L R Singh, Deputy Director General, BIS, New Delhi.
