Army regiments put up impressive mass band display
Chandigarh, Oct 12 (UNI) A congregation of 163 pipers and drummers from various bands of nine battalions of the Indian army put up a mesmerising mass band display at the prize distribution ceremony of the annual inter-corps band competition that concluded at Chandimandir here today.
Hosted by the Western Command, the four -day competition beginning on October 9 saw a total of nine band teams from various regiments participating. The 5/1 Gorkha Regiment, 19 J&K Rifles and 5/3 Gorkha regiment bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively.
The other participants were 2 Kumaon, 6 Dogra, 3/1 GR, 2 Mech Inf, 19 Dogra and 8 Garhwal Rifles. Maj Gen Ravi Khetarpal, MG EME, HQ Western Command was the guest of honour at the function.
The mass band display was led by Subedar Gobind Ram of 2 Mech Inf who conducted it with elan. The band marched to the tunes of Bonawe Highlanders, Cock of the North, Sky Gathering, Deshon-ka-Sartaj Bharat, Monymush, Ale-is-Dear and Sare Jahan Se Achha.
The bands marched with finesse as they conducted the display.
Coordinated move of the bands stole the show as a large number of spectators watched the show. As the band competition came to an end, the bands marched to the tune of Sare Jahan Se Achha into the fort constructed for the occasion.
