AIADMK seeks special Assembly session
Puducherry, Oct 12(UNI) AIADMK state secretary A Anbazhagan, today urged the administration to immediately convene a special session of the territorial assembly to hear the views of the legislators on granting powers to the newly elected municipal councillors.
Adressing a press conference here, he referred to Chief Minister N Rangasamy's statement that due powers would be granted to the councillors after a cabinet meeting and said any power could be added or deleted with the concurrence of the legislative assembly.
The Chief Minister should not make efforts for a wrong precedent Mr Anbazhagan said, even though a handbook on the powers of given to them the councillors were intervening in several unwarranted issues thereby stalling the works for the peoples' welfare.
He said the municipalities should enhance revenue by collecting building tax and property tax from private schools here which had commercialised education.
He charged that the municipality was losing a good amount by way of entertainment tax with the announcement of the Chief Minister that it would not be levied on films with Tamil titles. The municipalities should calculate the loss and collect it from the government, he added.
