Swamy flays FIR naming Fernandes in missile deal

Chennai, Oct 11: Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy today flayed the FIR, against former Defence Minister George Fernandes in connection with the Barak missile deal.

''The registering of a FIR, naming Mr Fernandes is ridiculous and obviously politically directed by Sonia Gandhi,'' Dr Swamy alleged.

The CBI argument that Mr Fernandes was Defence Minister when the Israeli Barak Missile was improperly purchased by the Ministry was the height of double standards, he said.

If the Rs 1,250 crore Barak deal was clearled by the then Cabinet Committee on Security, how could Mr Fernandes alone be held responsible, unless it was a political vendetta by Ms Gandhi, he asked.
