Students protest termination of lecturers
Imphal, Oct 11 (UNI) The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has announced to launch a stir if the state government does not take up the case of part time college lecturers in good spirit.
After the teachers launched a stir demanding a policy for the part time lecturers the government terminated the services of 466 part-time lecturers on Monday last.
The students' organization said the decision to terminate lecturers affected 26 colleges in the state.
Normal classes were disrupted and about 1051 lecturers were performing the task of 1260 lecturers.
Students burnt the effigy of the state education minister L Nandakumar demanding favourable consideration of their cases. The Government College Part Time Lecturers' Association, Manipur said the career of students would be affected and reminded that the government had been using the part time lecturers for the last 15 years and banned them from taking up any other job.
The Manipur Public Service Commission was defunct for a long time hence all teachers were appointed on part time basis it reminded.
It appealed for a review of the government decision.
