SMC to start Emergency Response System to tackle floods
Surat, Oct 11 (UNI) Surat Municipal Corporation is all set to start a centralised Emergency Response System(EMC) to tackle sudden floods in future, informed SMC Commissioner Pankaj Joshi.
The centre will be set up at Bhattar, an area which is located at the centre of the city, but not affected by the recent floods.
SMC is also planning to increase its logistics like mechanised motor boats. There are only 24 boats with SMC now.This was a major set back for its relief operations in the last flood.
A map of the city, marking the areas which can be largely affected by flood water, will also be ready by March 2007, said SMC officials.
Building a warning system that will help to predict the weather changes in the catchment areas of Tapi river is also in the SMC agenda, officials added.
