Shiv Sainiks block NH traffic, Lahore bus diverted
Phagwara, Oct 11 (UNI) Hundreds of slogan shouting Shiv Sena activists today blocked vehicular traffic on national highway near here and burnt an effigy of Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf and his controversial autobiography titled ''Agneepath.'' The demonstrators belonging to Punjab unit of Shiv Sena, held traffic for more than one hour near local bus stand. The Lahore-bound Bus from Pakistan was diverted from Phillaur via Noormahal, Nakodar and Jalandhar due to the noisy protests.
The protestors, headed by president Ravinder Arora, marched through main bazars of the town raising anti-Pakistan slogans and demanding immediate ban on the controversial book having derogatory remarks about the Indian Army. They also opposed the cricket match scheduled to be played on October 25 and 27 and threatened to hold demonstrations on both days at Mohali stadium.
The State Sena President and other leaders also demanded that a case of sedition be registered against Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah and PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti for their mercy appeals to President A P J Kalam seeking pardon for Afzal Guru, who has been awarded capital punishment in the Parliament attack case.
