SC has not indicted me: YSR

Hyderabad, Oct 11 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today said the Supreme Court had not indicted him or his government in its judgement setting aside the clemency granted to Congress MLA Gouru Charita's husband Gouru Venkata Reddy serving a sentence in a murder case.

Dr Reddy told newspersons this evening that as far as he could understand, the court had only found fault with the verification process which, it said, was not done properly in the case.

The Apex Court has not said Mr Venkata Reddy is unfit for clemency. ''If it is so, why will the court say he could once again appeal to the Governor for clemency?'' he asked.

The Chief Minister said he would be able to comment only after he went through the final judgement.

When asked about the demand from the opposition parties for his and then Governor Sushilkumar Shinde's resignation, he said they were in the habit of talking without knowing facts and politicising every issue.

However, Dr Reddy did not offer his comment when asked if his government would go for an appeal against the Apex Court order.

Earlier, Home Minister K Jana Reddy said his government, henceforth, would be more careful in dealing with clemency petitions.

Reacting to the Supreme Court's verdict, the Minister said the government had maximum regard for the judiciary and would implement the court's direction in letter and spirit.
