Santosh Harijan moves into semis, Dilbag bows out
Panaji, Oct 11 (UNI) Goa lad Santosh Harijan, competing in the flyweight category of the second Asian Junior Boxing Championship, did his home state proud by securing a blazing victory over Bhutan's Kinley Gyeltsren and joining India's Premjit Singh and Santosh Singh, who have made it to the semifinals.
Santosh danced and jabbed his way to a resounding victory as he outscored Gyeltsren by the third round. The referee stopped the contest when the points margin was unbridgeable.
Dilbag Singh of India went down fighting against Yegizerov (Kazakistan) in the light weight category. The Kazak boxer was trailing in the first round but fought back to pull off a narrow victory.
Tokuauev (Kazakistan), M K A Sanjeeva (Sri Lanka), and Akbari (Iran) also stormed into semifinals in the flyweight category today.
L Shinetulga (Mongolia), Yegizekov (Kazakistan), M R Bin Ahmad (Singapore) and Sagynbaev (Kirgiztan) also moved into the semifinals in the light-weight category.
Following were the results: Fly weight 51-kg: Tokuauev (Kazakistan) beat Iderkhua (Mongolia) on points 32-16; Santosh H (India) beat Gyeltsren (Bhutan) outscored; M K A Sanjeeva (Sri Lanka) beat K Kobayash (Japan) on points 25-11; Akbari (Iran) beat Kam Witong (Macau, China) outscored.
Light weight 60-kg: Shinetulga (Mongolia) beat Hsier Cha Crir (Chinese Taipei) 24-11; Yegizekov (Kazakistan) beat Dilbag Singh (India) on points 29-20; M R Bin Ahmad (Singapore) wins from walk over; Sagynbaev (Kirgiztan) beat Suzuki (Japan) 37-23.
