Protesting Manipur activists detained outside 10 Janpath, released
New Delhi, Oct 11 (UNI) More than 150 activists from Manipur were today detained, and later released, after they broke prohibitory orders and protested in front of Sonia Gandhi's residence at 10 Janpath this afternoon.
The Manipuri activists, numbering about 500, gathered at 10 Janpath in the afternoon and held a demonstration against the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) given to security forces in Manipur, sources said.
They were demanding the repeal of the AFSPA and wanted to meet Sonia Gandhi to apprise her on the issue, sources added.
Police said about 150 of the protestors were detained as they had broken the prohibitory orders under section 144.
They were released after some time, it added.
