One wounded in gunfight in Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 11 (UNI) One person was injured in the Kashmir valley in an encounter between militants and security forces overnight, an official spokesman said today.

On a tip off, security forces launched a search operation at Hef Shermal in south Kashmir district of Pulwama late last night.

When security forces were about to storm the house of Mohammad Issaq Haji, the militants hiding there opened fire which was retaliated.

In the ensuing gunfight, the house owner was wounded and later shifted to a hospital, the spokesman said.

However, militants managed to escape under the cover of darkness, he added.
