NPMHR stands by Iron Lady

Kohima, Oct 11 (UNI) The Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) has supported the fast-unto-death stand taken by Irom Chanu Sharmila against the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (1958) in Manipur.

Human rights activist Sharmila has been given the title of 'Iron Lady' by her supporters.

Supporting Sharmila's fight against human rights violation in the state, NPMHR (South) Convenor Phamhring Sengul in a release reminded the Nagas of the inhuman torture by the security forces.

'' Nagas have strongly resisted the military rule and filed a case on violation of human rights during Operation Bluebird at Oinam village in 1987,'' he said.

The NPMHR have alleged that the state government was not fair in delivering equal justice to every section of the people.

NPMHR have asked Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh to apologize to the people for such unhealthy atmosphere in the state.
