Notice to TRAI on roaming by TDSAT

New Delhi, Oct 11 (UNI) Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) today challenged a directive of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, (TRAI) that there would be no additional revenue share between operators on roaming calls, by moving a petitition by the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appelate Tribunal (TDSAT), today.

The TDSAT has accepted the petition through its bench, headed by Justice Arun Kumar who issued a notice to TRAI and directed it to file a reply within two weeks.

TDSAT also directed the regulator not to take any coercive steps against BSNL till November 17 - the next date of hearing.

TRAI's September 11 regulation had prohibited additional revenue share for roaming calls on applications received by some private cellular operators, and said that the prevailing rate of 30 paise per minute would be applicable for all types of roaming calls as per IUC regulation.

TRAI also held that there was no need by the private operators to pay any additional inter-connect charge on roaming calls.
