Nikkei inches higher, weak yen helps exporters
TOKYO, Oct 11 (Reuters) The Nikkei average opened slightly higher on Wednesday after a weakening yen helped Canon Inc. and other major exporters, but recent gainers such as Shin-Etsu Chemical Co. Ltd.
gave in to profit-taking.
Security concerns remained and curbed any aggressive buying after Japanese national broadcaster NHK said on Wednesday morning that North Korea appeared to have conducted another nuclear test.
The Nikkei was up 0.20 percent or 32.84 points at 16,510.09 as of 0005 GMT after hitting a five-month closing high on Tuesday. The TOPIX index was up 0.26 percent at 1,639.02.
