Libya says one killed, 17 injured in prison riot

TRIPOLI, Oct 11 (Reuters) Libya's state prosecutor said today one prisoner was killed and 17 people were injured when Islamist detainees clashed with guards and police at the country's main Abu Salim prison last week.

The state prosecutor said in the first official statement about the incident, which took place on October. 4, that 14 guards and policemen were among the injured.

Up to 1,200 prisoners had been reported killed in a mass prisoner revolt at the Abu Salim prison 10 years ago.

The statement was carried by Libyan state news agency Jana late yesterday.
