LDF bribed Gowri, tried to topple Antony govt: Chandy

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 11 (UNI) Opposition Leader in the Kerala assembly Oommen Chandy today alleged the Left Democratic Font(LDF) leaders, including the present Chief Minister V S Achutanandan had offered bribes to veteran leader K R Gowri for toppling the A K Antony Government and said that he was also aware of it.

Mr Chandy told newspersons the whole issue was known to everyone and even from the first day the LDF leaders tried to bribe Ms Gowri.

''After all a truth cannot be hid for long. And now Ms Gowri had disclosed it,'' he said.

Ms Gowri Amma had disclosed that Left leaders including Mr Achuthanandan had offered her the Deputy Chief Minister's post and money to topple the AK Antony government.

She also said that the leaders had approached her when the tussle between the Antony and Karunakaran factions in Congress was at its peak in 2003.

However, Mr Achuthanandan had already denied her allegation.

When asked about the spread of Chikungunya in the state, Mr Chandy said the LDF government had failed to provide the basic facilities. Moreover, CPI(M) State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan's comments that Chikungunya had spread in the state because of the previous United Democratic Front(UDF) Government's failure in containing the viral fever was unfortunate.

The UDF, however, had not tried to politicise the issue, he added.
