Jayalalitha asserts AIADMK will win

Chennai, Oct 11 (UNI) AIADMK supremo and former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today asserted that the AIADMK front would definitely win not only in today's by-election to Madurai Central Assembly constituency, but also in the two-phase polls to the local bodies, provided the elections were held in a free and fair manner.

Before leaving for Coimbatore, Ms Jayalalithaa, talking to media at the airport here took strong exception to the reported remarks of DMK president and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi that during the AIADMK regime, the local bodies were not functioning properly. She described the remarks as ''totally wrong and condemnable.'' ''By introducing indirect polls to choose the heads of local bodies, the DMK Government had snatched away the fundamental rights of the people,'' she claimed.

Asked to comment on the arrest of AIADMK cadre 'calling them rowdy elements', she said the DMK Government was letting loose repression and atrocities against the opposition, especially the AIADMK and despite, the front would win in a big way.
