Jammu University hosts 43RD AIOC

Jammu, Oct 11 (UNI) Around 2,000 scholars from different parts of the country as well as abroad will participate in the 43rd All India Oriental Conference (AIOC) at Jammu University (JU) beginning here from tomorrow.

The three-day conference, being hosted by the post graduate Department of Sanskrit of the JU, will deliberate on a wide range of subjects including Vedic, Iranian, classical Sanskrit, Islamic Studies, Arabic, Persian, Pali and Buddhism Prakrit and Jainism, Indian Linguistics, Philosophy and religion, Dravidian studies, technical sciences and fine arts and south east asian studies.

Talking to media persons last evening, AIOC General Secretary Saroja Bhate threw light on the history and objectives of the conference.

For the last eight decades AIOC has been serving as a platform for scholars interested in Orientology, she informed.

The best papers presented will also be honoured with Dr V G Rahurkar prize (Vedic), Smt Sushila Devi Mishra prize (Vedic), Dr V G Rahurkar prize (Vedanta-philosophy and religion), Dr V G Raghavan prize (religion), Dr Jayamanta Mishra prize (classical sanskrit), Muni Punyavijyaji prize (Prakrit and Jainism), Ms Annapurna and Dr R K Sharma prize (modern Sanskrit), Markatavalli Sundaresvara Sambhalvana prize (Pandita Parisad) and Sragdhara Nandi Prize (Alamkarasastra), she added.
