Inferno victims in Bahrain still waiting for compensation
Dubai, Oct 11 (UNI) Families of 16 Indian workers who died in a labour camp blaze in Bahrain are yet to get any compensation.
The General Organisation for Social Insurance (Gosi) said compensation could not be paid to the workers who died on July 30 inferno because of technical reasons.
''Compensation could only be paid if the accident had taken place at work or during their transportation from the workplace to the labour camp and back,'' Gosi official said.
As the workers died in the inferno at the camp, they did not come under the coverage of Gosi, he added.
The Indian embassy, which had taken up the case, has refused to accept 16 cheques totalling nearly BD2,300 handed by the construction company to the Labour Ministry as there were no supporting documents or calculation sheets in Bahrain Labour Law.
Meanwhile, the embassy had urged the company to make arrangements to award proper compensation to each family, after paying their settlements.
