Indirect taxes record hefty growth
New Delhi, Oct 11 (UNI) Indirect tax collection has recorded a hefty growth from April to September, 2006, with customs registering a growth rate of 33.8 per cent, Excise collections growing by 6.7 per cent in the same period and services growing by a phenominal 64.9 per cent from April to August.
Customs and Excise collection together registered a growth rate of 17.4 per cent during April- September.
Customs in September, 2006, grew by 32.2 per cent and Excise by nine per cent. Services in this month ticked a growth rate of 59.9 per cent.
Customs duty for the month of September was Rs 7,604 crores as compared to Rs 5,750 crores in the correspoding month last year.
The amount collected as excise duty during the month stood at Rs 9,498 crores, clocking a nine per cent rise over Rs 8,713 crores, the collection made during September last year.
The service tax, for which the figures were available till the month of August 2006, stood at Rs 2,563 crores over its collection Rs The required growth rate to achieve Budget Estimates 2006-07 is as follows: Customs 3.8 per cent and excise 6.3 per cent. UNI GS LS ND2017
