Hawkers Union directed to pay Rs 6.4 lakh to AAI
Mumbai, Oct 11 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today directed the Hawkers Union to pay Rs 6.4 lakh to the Airport Authority of India within one week as arrears for using the latter's land at Juhu Beach.
A division bench comprising Justices R M Lodha and S A Bobde were hearing a public interest litigation filed by Save Juhu Association (NGO) for beautification of the area.
Earlier, the hawkers had been relocated under the beautification plan and owed a sum of Rs 62 lakh to the AAI. While they have already paid Rs 23.6 lakh, the rest of the amount is still a disputed issue.
The court, while allowing AAI to initiate proceedings against the Hawkers Union for the disputed sum, passed the said order.
