Ex corporator sentenced to life on murder charges
Kolhapur, Oct 11 (UNI) A former city corporator, Khandu Kamble, and his brother Saudar were today convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court which held them guilty in a murder case.
Additional sessions judge S P Kulkarani also sentenced three others -- Rajendra Burud, Mehtab Shaikh and Tanaji Kshirsagar, to a year's rigorous imprisonment. Four others, including Khandu Kamble's wife Chaya, also a former corporator, were acquitted.
According to the prosecution case, there was dispute between two groups -- one led by the Kamble brothers and the other by Dinesh Gundappa Dolare from the same locality over a local political matter. On May 23, 2002, the Kamble brothers attacked Dinesh with a sword in which the latter was killed. Few other people were also injured in the clash. The court examined fourteen witnesses in the case.
