Customs Dept sets collection target of Rs 180 crore

Puducherry, Oct 11(UNI) The Customs Department in Puducherry has fixed a import duty collection target of Rs 180 crore during the current financial year, Assistant Customs Commissioner A Perumal said today.

In an informal chat with newspersons on the sidelines of a meeting on import export transactions with several enterpreneurs here, Mr Perumal said the import duty collection during 2001-02 was Rs 23 crore, which had enhanced to Rs 120 crore during 2004-05.

Stating that several facilities were there in the Puducherry port , he asked the businessmen in the region to use the port as it was more economical for them.
