Customs arrest one person with 177 assorted cameras

Mumbai, Oct 11 (UNI) The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Mumbai Airport customs arrested one person yesterday who was trying to abandon his baggage on arrival and recovered 177 assorted cameras worth Rs 12.93 lakh from him.

Satish Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Customs, AIU said in a statement that Rafiq Nasar (34) who arrived from Singapore by a Jet Airways flight-9w011 at CSI airport was intercepted by the vigilance officers of the airport customs on suspicion. The officials received information that the passenger had abandoned his two pieces of baggage at the conveyor belt and was trying to clear through the customs with one piece of plastic carry bag.

He had filed customs declaration as nil as regards the number of his baggage and value of goods imported by him.

On interrogation, he admitted the ownership of the two bags which he had abandoned at the conveyor belt.

As many as 177 assorted cameras valued Rs 12.93 lakh were seized from the two bags. He was arrested under the provisions of customs act 1962 and further investigations were in progress.
