BSNL to introduce 3G services in NE

Agartala, Oct 11 (UNI) The e-commerce activities in Northeast will get a boost as the BSNL is going to introduce Third Generation (3G) services in three North Eastern states.

General Manager (Development) of NE-1 circle of the BSNL B K Biswas today said the 3G services would be launched in Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura.

Mr Biswas gave the details of their developmental plans and informed that approximately 5000 new landline connections will be given by the year end.

''Tripura is the only state in the entire Northeast region to avail this facility and 200 km underground cables will be laid to achieve this target,'' Mr Biswas said.

He has also assured to set 25 new Wireless in Local Loop (WLL) Base Transmission System (BTS) stations in the state and said 2.4 lakhs new mobile connections would be provided to these states.

''Of these one lakh connections will be provided to Tripura alone,'' Mr Biswas said.

All the telephone exchanges here would be covered under broadband service along with the three district head quarters, he added.
