BJP leader arrested in rice scam

Pathalgaon, Oct 11 (UNI) A BJP leader, who was evading arrest for many months, was arrested today from his residence at Kharsia in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district in connection with the controversial ''Kunkuri rice scam'' in Jashpur district, police said.

On a tip-off, an Economic Offence Wing (EOW) team arrested main accused Vimal Garg, a transporter, who was wanted under section 420 of the IPC.

The accused will be presented before Jashpur court today.

The EOW is interrogating rice millers in Raigarh, Kharsia, Pathalgaon and Kotba in this regard after about 25,000 quintal rice were found mysteriously missing from the stock in a Civil Supplies Corporation godown last year.

Kunkuri depot manager Sunil Nigam was also named an accused in it and was arrested from Madhya Pradesh's Damoh district recently.
