Sensex ends flat, cautious prior to results
Mumbai, Oct 10: The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive Index (Sensex) in a cautious trade once again closed flat at 12,363.77, after staying range bound throughout the day prior to second quarter financial results starting tomorrow.
Sensex swirled 140.59 points reaching a high of 12,481.93 and a low of 12,341.34 as traders booked profit ahead of results.
The key benchmark indices in Asia like Japan, Korea, Tailand, and Singapore all emerged from the burden of North Korean nuke tests to close in the green between 0.75 to 1.00 per cent.
The BSE clocked a turnover of Rs 3,181 crore today.
Few amongst the major sectoral indices on BSE, once again, reverted into negative after trading in the positive zone for the larger part of the day. The only highlight was Consumer Durables sector trading up by 2.61 per cent, buoyant on perception that major Consumer Goods players are going to have very strong second quarter results. However, Metals tracking weak prices on the London Metals Exchange closed in the red by 0.44 per cent, Oil&Gas was down by 0.34 per cent, and Bankex was down by 0.36 per cent.
Leading the pack of gainers on the BSE-30 index were NTPC up by 1.89 per cent to Rs 132.00, HDFC up by 1.61 per cent to Rs 1,414.50, Maruti Udyog up by 1.30 per cent to Rs 952.50, Tata Motors up by 1.12 per cent to Rs 911.75, Bharti Airtel up by 0.98 per cent to Rs 468.40, TCS up by 0.86 per cent to Rs 1,011.35, Wipro up by 0.85 per cent to Rs 519.90, Dr Reddy's Lab up by 0.81 per cent to Rs 712.30, ACC up by 0.78 per cent to Rs 988.10 , HDFC up by 0.77 per cent to Rs 938.95.
Besides the losers on the index were HLL down by 1.99 per cent to Rs 238.65, Tata Steel down by 1.62 per cent to Rs 517.80, Reliance Communications down by 0.94 per cent to Rs 344.25, Hindalco down by 0.93 per cent to Rs 175.50, Reliance Energy down by 0.92 per cent to Rs 465.15, L&T down by 0.84 per cent to Rs 1,280.60, SBI down by 0.83 per cent to Rs 1,025.95, Bajaj Auto down by 0.67 per cent to Rs 3067.10, ICICI Bank down by 0.62 per cent to Rs Guajarat Ambuja down by 0.48 per cent to Rs 123.15.
